Its not the amount, its the significance of the relationship. If anything, if the amount and significance exceeds the ability it indicates that more resources need to be diverted to this new form of media.

I'd have to say I agree with both options. I think some people do have natural leadership tendencies. However, I agree that certain situations, opportunities and influencers contribute to developing strong leaders as well. I think some people have the natural instinct to step into a leadership role, but I've also experienced situations when people who tend to be more passive have stepped into the leadership role and risen to the occasion. I think it all depends on the situation, but I think both those who are born leaders and those who have learned to lead others through experience can serve as strong leaders.

A fabulous perspective on leadership, Amanda! I think we've all experienced good and bad leaders. Some believe that you're either born a leader or you're not. Others think that you can learn how to be a leader. I tend to think the latter. I believe that situations, opportunities and influencers contribute to developing strong leaders. What do you think?

"The pessimist complains about the wind; the optimist expects it to change; the realist adjusts the sails." William Arthur Ward

I like your point about accepting today's environment and being flexible about change as an approach to success.

Here's a quote that's great for writers:
"The average pencil is seven inches long, with just a half-inch eraser - in case you thought optimism was dead." Robert Brault :)

How can companies afford the time and money it would take to develop relationships with bloggers? There are SO many more of them than traditional media editors. At what point are there just too many valuable relationships for one PR person to manage?

Amanda,

Very well done. I'm not sure I'll be a twitter person, however I know it is growing in popularity.

Keep up the good work. I am proud of you.

Love Dad

Thanks for all the great feedback!

Rebecca, I think about how lucky we are to be part of PRKent all the time! And to think- three years ago, Bill would go on and on about blogs and Twitter and I had no clue. And now look at us, I agree with both you and Brittany and plan to "leverage" my experience with social media when I'm looking for a job after graduation.

And like Lee said, how do we get any work done? It's dangerous, I'm pretty sure I could spend my whole life trying to keep up with Twitter and the blogosphere... it's a balancing act between establishing a presence online and still maintaining a "real" life. These social networks require so much time and work to stay current. But because Twitter is so global, I have a feeling all the time we invest in social networks is worth the efforts because it gives people the ability to connect with each other across the world in immediate, two-way conversations like we never could before.

Great post! Have any Twitter fundraising events for charity used Pledgebank or similar online "challenge offer" systems?

We're interested in exploring ways that Twitter-based giving can stimulate sustainable self help ventures in poor areas.

Best,
